An older relative has damaged their phone screen in a fall. The Xperian phone is still operating by touch but may not last long

 Xperia

Could I check whether the contacts are on SIM (How in simple terms ?)

How can I change them to SIM if not.    Should this help should the phone fail?

Or any other suggestions ? Back up ? I have a google account - could I use the Xeria SIM card in my phone (or spare phone) and back it up?

Thanks

Best way is to back them up to their google account, the same one they use for the google store for apps.

The easiest way to check the contacts are on the sim is to put the sim in a different phone and see if they come up.

You can add them to the sim by going into the settings and this guide from Voda is the best i have seen:

https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk/sony/xperia-10-android-9-0/calls-and-contacts/copy-contacts-betw...

Also it might be worth popping to a phone repair shop or stall and seeing if they can fix the screen.
- Xperia 1V - o2 and Spusu
- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

Hi @Jenny105

Depending on the model of Xperia, they could make a full back up with Xperia Companion https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/mobile-phones-tablets-mobile-phones/xperia-5-ii/articles/... or Xperia transfer https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/SX915801

Either of these would also allow you to see if any contacts were saved on the phone.

there's a 99% certainty that they would be backed up to Google already too.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Thanks for all the sensible advice.   We are sorted.    The phone was checked , there is back up to Google account in place. O2 shop sent us to a local shop. It would take 6 days with 02 only 2 DAYS locally.

The glass has been replaced and a cover bought.
