Check your data apn against the settings here http://www.geeksquad.co.uk/articles/o2-apn-settings#o2%20Android%20APN%20MMS%20mobile%20internet%20s... or text the word "active" to 2020 to get them sent to your phone.

Sorry @Anonymous, but your post is a little vague. What is showing in the notification bar at the top of your phone? Have you tried removing the sim card and gently cleaning it?

On most phones it displays as "H" or "H+"
