Hi

just got my new o2 pay as you go sim.
I have a rolling monthly account.
Now I’m probably being thick, but I purchased the sim primarily for use on holiday.
when I activated my account it said I have o2 travel opt out bolt on active on my account.
does this mean I cannot use this sim in EU without removing this bolt on.
I’m going away next week and would hate to return to a hefty bill.
can anyone enlighten me please

It's nonsense.

Everyone gets free EU roaming.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I hope I got this right but the free O2 Travel opt out bolt means you don't pay the full £1.99 as you do normally with O2 Travel and when in those 5 countries, Switzerland etc you only pay the much cheaper standard rates 4p per min.

You've posted on the end of a thread that was last used in April !

I think that @MI5 has answered your question here :-

@Oxonian I wasn't entirely sure what the 02 Travel Opt out Bolt on was. @MI5 didn't really explain exactly what it meant, only that it was cheaper to use it.

@koala321

I'm sure I said that if you opt out you will pay standard rates applicable to the countries you are visiting?

I also gave you the link to check what those costs are in various countries.

With countries outside of EU charging you over £7 per mb of data, it is definitely cheaper to pay the daily travel charge.

@MI5 It sounds complicated but I think I got it.

In Switzerland a 10min phone call to the UK would cost 40p at 4p per minute, so the Travel Opt out bolt on prevents £1.99 being taken out by 02 Travel when I'm in Switzerland and I just pay the standard rate for Switzerland instead?

Yes @koala321

Exactly that.

Switzerland is a unique case. In all other non EU countries calls are £2 per min.

@MI5 The link you sent me was really interesting.  Japan for example is £2 per min, so a 10 minute phone call would cost £20! That goodness for 02 Travel.

Happy holidays ☃️😀🎄🎄🎄
