I still don't get the voicemail notification until later but i switched on visual voicemail and i get notifications that way which solves the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I know it is customer to customer I was just hoping someone would have an easy fix for it.I have contacted O2 as you say and they told me to deactivate voicemail by dialling 1760 and then reactivate it by dialling 1750. Hopefull...
