Use your UK bundles in Europe!

Hi everyone, 

We have some great news regarding roaming in Europe.

from 15 June customers on O2’s Pay Monthly, Pay As You Go and Business tariffs will be able to use their inclusive allowances while travelling in Europe. So while the weather will hopefully be different to the UK, using their phone won’t be. And to celebrate, three lucky people will have the chance to win a weekend break to a European destination.

O2 customers don’t need to do anything to take advantage of the changes. Instead, from Thursday 15 June they’ll simply be able to make and receive calls and texts to anyone in O2’s Europe Zone and use their data allowance too. If they need extra data while they’re abroad, O2 customers will be able to add a Bolt On just like they can at home – they’ll be able to use any leftover data when they return too.

To help get people in to the holiday spirit, O2 is giving away three weekend breaks to a European destination and full details will be announced through its social media channels later today. Each break is for two people and includes flights, accommodation and £500 spending money. For more info on this giveaway check out the terms and conditions here 

O2’s Europe Zone covers 47 countries for Pay Monthly and Business customers. These are: Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar (UK), Greece, Guadeloupe, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion Islands, Romania, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Martin (French), San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and Vatican City. Destinations outside the EU/EEA are also included – Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Monaco and Switzerland.

For Pay As You Go customers Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Monaco and Switzerland aren’t included in O2’s Europe Zone. Customers can still access these destinations at O2’s standard European rates or via the O2 Travel Bolt On. Pay As You Go £30 Big Bundle customers can use up to 10GB of their 20GB data allowance.

and this is the Key Factors that are in the Terms and even though it mentions o2 travel, this is the latest one which has been recently updated.

Roaming abroad O2 Travel customers who exceed 50Mb per day will experience limited throughput for web browsing, e-mail, social networking, video and VPN services, which may slow these services down. O2 Travel customers’ who use Peer to Peer, file transfer, network storage or gaming applications or services whilst roaming abroad, will be provided with limited throughput which will slow these services down.

it also states in their roaming terms that data will not be the same as the uk and may be slower

this can now be a turning point if other 3 networks offer better roaming as this is what they are going to shine and set them apart from o2

@Martin-O2  - Your mention of "47 countries" is misleading. Of these "47 countries":

• 30 are EU/EEA countries, where O2 is obliged to charge domestic prices by law from 15th June 2017.
• 1 is an EU/EEA territory (Gibraltar), where O2 is obliged to charge domestic prices by law from 15th June 2017.
• 9 are regions of EU countries already listed and therefore should not be listed as separate countries - "Azores, Canary Islands, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Madeira, Martinique, Reunion Islands [sic], Saint Barthelemy, Saint Martin (French)"
• 2 are such small countries that for telephony purposes they are part of Italy - San Marino and Vatican City. These two countries are served only by Italian networks.
• 2 are genuine non-EEA countries where O2 might offer a competitive advantage over other UK networks - Monaco and Switzerland.
• 3 are genuine non-EEA territories where O2 might offer a competitive advantage over other UK networks - Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey.

Particularly in view of the 9 regions listed above that are not countries, by stating "47 countries" O2 is breaching Regulation 5(5) of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. I have no doubt that the figure of "47 countries" is intended to appear higher to consumers than Three's figure of 42 destinations.

It is also apparent that O2 is presenting roaming at domestic prices as a distinctive feature of its product, but only 5 of the "47 countries" are places where O2 does not have to provide roaming at domestic prices by law. I should remind you that Schedule 1 Paragraph 10 of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 describes "Presenting rights given to consumers in law as a distinctive feature of the trader’s offer" as an unfair commercial practice.

I suggest that you urgently refer this matter to your legal department and remove the misleading marketing material.

Vodafone lists the countries differently. They list the main county and including country (Not listed separately)

as far as I'm aware. It's always been like this and I'm sure by now some where some one would have said something or ofcom would have noticed.

im not saying it's right or wrong, but consumers ask a lot if certain places are covered because it just says Spain and not Canary Islands.  All this does is make it clearer.

but I get where you are coming from.
