Hey all,

We see some of you have already spotted this but we wanted to confirm that the TU Go app & service will be ending on 30th November. We’ll be notifying all customers that have the TU Go app about this from today, Tuesday 17th October, through to Friday 20th October.

While TU Go is ending, we’re continuing to offer alternative calling options for our customers. More information can be found here. As VoWifi (Voice over Wifi, part of our Wifi and 4G calling capabilities) continues to develop, we’re working with our vendors to expand the selection of handsets that we offer with Wifi and 4G calling capabilities. A full list of currently supported devices can be found here, where we will also add future devices when they’re available.

If the device you’re currently using doesn’t support Wifi and 4G calling, you can check the My O2 app or get in touch with our customer service team (202 from an O2 Pay Monthly mobile, 8002 from O2 Business mobile) to see what upgrade options are available to you.

We recommend that all TU Go users make copies of any stored messages or images that they have saved on the TU Go app, as the app won’t be accessible from 1 December.

A thank you
We know that some of our O2 Community members helped test the TU Go app during beta trials and provided varied and fantastic feedback which helped our team shape the app, add new features and fix any bugs. We hope you’ve enjoyed using TU Go, and again want to thank anyone from the O2 Community that helped us.

More information on the closure of TU Go can be found here: https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/tu-go

The difference was that TU worked anyway where there was a decent WiFi signal and could be used to make use of your allowances outside the EU. That last point alone was probably the reason for its demise.

Now with wifi calling without texts I might add, the need for networks' own firmware, many customers are left without phone in their homes and tied into a long contract with a £500+ phone, then no wonder customers are angry.

The removal of this Tu Go app seems to have upset quite a few people!

Was it any different to the services offered by other providers?

And was there any reason for its demise?

"And was there any reason for its demise?"

Yes.
Clawing back lost roaming revenue.

Absolutely disgusted that Tu go has been closed..A very good and useful service. I think this is a backward step for O2, who at this stage don't seem to listen or care about their customers...O2 please listen, help and show some quality customer care and bring it back...It was a great service in remote areas.

There's no point complaining, O2 made their final decision and will not bring back TU Go. They shut it down completely now and probably started removing the resources.

Move network or find other solutions.

Hi all,

I currently travel between the UK and Turkey (Northern Cyprus).  I used to use TU Go a lot to make calls to UK landlines whilst abroad and it was absolutely brilliant!  Although I have enabled Wifi Calling on my phone, it seems that I now cannot make a call over wifi whilst in Airplane Mode.  i.e. I took Airplane mode off whilst on a wifi network, made a couple a calls to UK landlines (currently i'm abroad) and i've been charged about £20 for calls totalling c. 10 minutes!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

From a currently saddened long term O2 customer :o(

No, you have to pay now or use skype, whatsapp etc.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

O2 wifi calling only works in the UK but even so it doesn't give you free calls from overseas. Nothing can replace TU and your situation and everyone else's who used it to call home is the very probable reason O2 scrapped it.

You've just paid £20 so multiply that by the hundreds of thousands of people who now have to pay and O2 will laughing all the way to the bank.
