According to a new research published by O2, Britain will need 2.287 million digitally skilled workers by 2020 to satisfy the UK’s digital landscape. The research also predicts that 47% of new digital jobs created in the next five years will be in London and the South East. In response, O2 has launched an ambitious Digital Communities pilot in St. Helens to inspire people and businesses outside of the nation’s capital to make the most of the digital opportunity.

The Digital Communities kicked off on October 8th and will last for 3 months. The project covers a huge spectrum of digital improvements and activities – everything from Digital Makeovers and and Healthchecks for businesses, to tech workshops and skills sessions for local residents.

Local businesses
O2 is offering Digital Healthchecks to businesses to help them understand how technology can improve the way they work, sell and engage with customers. What’s more, the O2 Gurus are on hand to answer any tech queries. For businesses wanting to check how digital their business is click here
Local commuters
O2 wants to support businesses in embracing technology and flexible working, so they have created a Digital Hub in St Helens town centre as part of the Digital Communities project. This custom-designed space will offer free Wifi and work-out desks for local business commuters to use most Mondays and Fridays instead of travelling into work. This is a unique opportunity to try first-hand how remote working may benefit– all completely free of charge. Commuters can join O2 in the Digital Hub by booking a hotdesk.
