Sad to get an email this morning saying that this community facility is being discontinued by O2 for lack of use. I don't understand the logic of it. Surely it doesn't cost anything to run and appears to be well used. Can you shed a light on this ?

Odd, I got an email saying I had to log in, not that they were discontinuing the place.

Why are they telling you they are discontinuing the place, and sending me this?

Due to current data regulations, we’ll soon need to delete all O2 Community online accounts that haven’t been used for 12 months or more. 

O2 Community is a useful space to share and learn tips from O2 customers. So if you’d like to ask a question on how to use a feature on your phone, or to give us some feedback on our service, any time, it’s a great place to go. 

To stay part of our O2 Community, simply sign in to your account before 12 March 2019.

Here's the email notice - which on re-reading I may have misunderstood.

 

"Due to current data regulations, we’ll soon need to delete all O2 Community online accounts that haven’t been used for 12 months or more."

 

Nevertheless, it's still hard to understand why such a useful facility should be withdrawn only because you haven't used it for 12 months. Its very likely you may desperately need it after a lag of 12 months and a day !?

Yes you have misunderstood @davowolf 

The Community has already started to delete accounts which haven't been used for some time. However, we still have people who haven't posted for years, but have logged on, to keep their account active.

That's all you need to do as far as I am aware?

It's the new GDPR regs and data protection / mis-use etc.
