O2 will offer Apple’s latest products starting on 22nd September 2017, including the new generation iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Customers will be able to pre-order iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus beginning 15th September at www.o2.co.uk/iphone, in store, voice and online, with iPhone X pre-order beginning Friday 27th October

@NathanKenneford Yes and it has been the same for many years and at one point o2 did not do preorders etc I am not defending them at all . When o2 had the exclusivity agreement then all non apple stock went to o2 etc .
@Chris_K Can you please feedback again the level of customer dissatisfaction with information being given out buy live chat etc

Interestingly, having got very frustrated at reports (and personal experience) of the same phone/tariff orders being completed before mine while my pre-order was still showing 4 weeks+ on online chat responses, I phoned up for a PAC genuinely intending to move from O2. The person who I spoke to insisted that there was a strict queuing system in place.
But when I mentioned that I knew personally of two friends who had got delivery of the same model phone with later orders but who were new to O2 and who placed orders after me, she said she didn't know "what the stock availability was in the new contract team".
I finished the call by saying that I would be phoning up as a new joiner to O2 to see the response I might get. 15 minutes later my delivery was confirmed for tomorrow.
Ignoring my particular order, my take on this conversation is that O2 have a legally defensible system of a strict queueing system, but they are differentiating new O2 account team stock availability from refresh teams who have seperate stock access.

Hi everyone, just though I'd share some positive news. I had confirmation this evening that my tariff has swapped over and my order is now showing as 'Complete' with a DPD tracking number (which says delivery is due tomorrow).
This is for a 256GB Space Gray iPhone X, pre-ordered on the 27th October at 08:55 for home delivery.
I was going to phone up O2 tomorrow and cancel if there was no firm delivery information so I feel pretty lucky!
Fingers crossed everyone still waiting gets theirs soon.
