Exciting news for everyone!

Today, Ofcom has announced the results of the 4G spectrum auction and we're pleased to say 4G will be coming to O2 slight_smile

Well, for me seeingthat O2 has got a good chunk of the 4G stuff now could mean 1 thing, I might actually get proper 3G and even way way better 2G coverage where I am in the countryside.

I have weekly chats with O2 CS in the hope I may have better reception and get fobbed off with same lame excuse and there are times I regret coming to O2. slight_frown

Fingers crossed I get an improvement like so many are hoping for

AS for me worried or thinking about a 4G phone - not at all, I'll wait until much later on

I actually think O2 have pulled off a masterstroke here. They've bid one of the lowest amounts for the chunk of 4G that no-one else really wanted.

Sounds bad on paper but think of it this day. Ofcom ruled that whoever got the slice O2 won would have to have 98% indoor covereage. Its one of the conditions of having the license.

O2 paid a lot for it, but not as much as they would have done for other bands. So, they have more money to invest in the actual service rather than lining the government's pockets. And remember they HAVE to have 98% coverage indoors. They can't produce a sub-standard version that no-one will be happy to use.

Genius idea and will really set O2 apart in the 4G race. Its the best news O2's customers could have gotten.

The part I wonder most is how many people have use for faster connections.

I mean I can watch funny cat videos on YouTube with 3G quite happily.

@liquid it is not just about speed with 4g but range and in building coverage I for one am looking forward to the benefits of the coverage obligation block that O2 bought being a very rural user.

I think this is the bit we are all, truely, looking forward to and hoping that O2 does actually succeed especially for the rural and very rural users.

If that improves then I think it'll be a big success for O2 slight_smile

Isn't the 800MHz band the one where the filters have to be provided to prevent interference with DVB-T TV?

I assume the Z10 will work with O24G.

Th 800mhz band is one that will affect a % of home and not all homes

Approx 2 Million if you look here and see if you may be in an affected area http://www.ukfree.tv/fullstory.php?storyid=1107052066

I'm a bit dumb when it comes to 4g and stuff so forgive me if this is a silly question.

I currently dont get a 3g signal at my home, when the 4g comes will this change? I don't think my current phone (xperia s) supports 4g
