Can you send normal sms messages via iwatch series 6? everything else works fine. if i open messages it will display all my messages but i am unable to send any when not by my phone.

Sorry no.

Apple watch can only send iMessage when used standalone.

If you have a cellular version of the watch it will send messages when not connected to your phone. If you have the WiFi only version then as per MI5 above
