frozen and locked screen

My iphone screen is locked as open. i cant close the phone down, i cant make calls, i cant even open a single app, and i cant switch the phone off to rest it. any ideas of how to get my phone working again?????

Have you tried this reset procedure?

1 - Press volume up

2 - Press volume down

3 - Press on/off button and hold it in until the Apple logo appears on screen.
