What information is required to transfer number if is claimed to be 'lost' SIM card is lost?

Hello,

 

I am trying to make my SIM/phone number as secure as possible to avoid a SIM-Swap scam. In many countries, it is a requirement to go to a physical shop with your passport in order to change the number to a new sim card, is this the case with O2?

 

If not, what information do O2 request from someone who would inpersonate me in order to transfer my number to their new SIM Card.

An O2 shop would require a passport or driving licence.

Also a bill with your name and address on it.

Hope that helps. NB you could ring your local store  and ask what they want to see.

This is just hypothetical question, I was concerned after reading some cases and wanted to know if I can secure my SIM/Phone number in anyway

Normally you need photo ID

ie passport or driving licence

The usual security checks when calling

Of course there are scammers out there who seemingly can by-pass this online with information gleamed from other sources

Prevention isn't always possible as there are ways around any type of security.

Being reactive and reporting any sudden and unexpected loss of signal can stop scams in their tracks and save yourself from the pain.
