Hello,
I have just been moved to o2 from virgin. I used my sim in my router and when I have put the new one from o2 in today and I have no signal. I tried to login to online to speak to agent but to do this I need to get a text message to phone from sim which I can’t do as I don’t use 02. Does anyone know if this sim can go in router or did virgin not think of this when people benign transferred over? Any help would be great!

Probably not your problem at this stage but just to inform you using a normal SIM in a permenantly wired router is not allowed on O2. Portable MiFi devices are OK

Do they have this stated anywhere? I had no issues with virgin worked brilliantly and thought the service would be like for like.

Yes but I'll have to dig it out.
In the meanwhile you will probably have to go into the router settings and change the APN settings and see if it will work

you can use your sim in any device, even a router, phone companies cant restrict choice of device or they would be breaching net neutrality rules

In theory. In practice, O2 offer specific data SIMs, any other type won't work in your router for very long, if at all.
Good luck!

Ahh the famous Assessment Framework document from OfCom that is not actually a regulation or ruling..
Just to be clear, and make sure you are using the correct terminology, a Router is a permantely connected device to a network or Internet, and as such, does not apply to the framework.
If you use a dongle or mifi which are connected to the mobile network, these can be used with a handset sim, is they connect temporarily to the network.
The reason it worked on Virgin Media, was down to the MVNO setup in place, which was basically a cluster*****, that now doesnt exist.
