I am on Pay As You Go with O2, using an old 2G Doro Mobile. O2 sent me a text saying I will need to upgrade to a 4G device before the end of this year as 2G is being switched off. Within the text they offered a deal on a G4 Doro mobile. My question is: Can I purchase the Doro G4 mobile, remove the sim card from my G2 mobile, put it into the new phone and all will work fine now and when 2G is switched off?

2g will remain working so everything you currently do on your 2g only device will still continue to work.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

It's 3g that is being turned off, not 2g, so you have no need to change.

M15, thanks for your reply... Sorry, I'm an old fellow & not technically minded. O2's text says: '... As your mobile only works for calls on our 2G & 3G network, you'll need to upgrade your device (to 4G).' So I am rather confused by your answer.

Although it is 3G that is closing down some older 2G SIM Cards will cease to work from April and will need replacing

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/device-and-sim-support/2g-sim-swap#:~:text=By%20April%202025%2C%20older%20...?

Why do you need to update your SIM?

By April 2025, older O2 2G SIMs will no longer be able to connect to our network, so if you’re affected and no action is taken, you’ll lose service.

2G and 3G services have now been superseded by newer 4G and 5G technologies. Our latest SIMs are still compatible with 2G and 3G devices, but also offer increased coverage and faster speeds from our more energy-efficient network coverage masts.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Thanks again, M15.... I did an online search & what you say seems to be correct. I'm rather disgruntled that O2 didn't explain as much in their text, and just attempted to make me buy another phone when it was unnecessary.

Without knowing what sim card @Edu33 we cannot advise.

I suggest @Edu33 goes into an O2 store, with photo ID, to get the card checked first.

They will advise if a sim swap is necessary and if so, do it in store.

DO NOT be talked into an unnecessary new phone.
