Every time I visit Europe I am unable to use internet, get message saying I am not subscribed to a mobile data service even though data roaming is on. Have contacted O2 on 4 occasions and have visited store twice, still not working very frustrating.

Sounds like an iPhone apn issue.
Ask O2 to enable iData on your account.
Otherwise, when abroad, you need to change the apn to "mobile.o2.co.uk"
