Switch up - can you ever own the phone?

So - new iPhone offered o na Switch Up deal - presumably I pay that for a year and switch to the iPhone 16.

What if I love that phone and hate the 17 - can I stick with the 16 and pay it off or do you never pay your device off under Switch Up?

Are you in effect paying to hire a phone you can never own (and then sell).

I currently pay my phone off and drop it down the family food chain - if you don't take advantage of the switch up - you eventually own the phone - correct?

It works like a normal refresh plan, so if you dont want to switch up to a new phone you just keep paying as now, and at the end you own the phone.

If you switch up, you give the old phone back, as a trade in and o2 pay off the remaining Refresh Plan, and then start again...
