Also have a look at this page here https://status.o2.co.uk to see if there are any issues in the local area.  Also try the sim in a different phone, to see if the issue is related to the sim or phone.

Guide: Is the network down for me or everyone? 

If the sim she is using is old then it might be worth getting a replacement. Best way to do that is by visiting the local o2 store - the account holder needs photo ID.

What are the signal issues your Nan has?

 

Is this a temporary loss of coverage in an area previously with service? Or no coverage in an area your Nan's not been to previously?
