Very probably a scam
O2 don't normally call customers
However if you are still using a Virgin sim then you do need to replace it
Best option is instore with photo ID
If you call customer service your current sim will be disconnected automatically when the system recognises a new sim has been ordered
That way you could be up to a week with no phone
This is why we say go instore
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO PHONE CALLS CLAIMING TO BE WORKING FOR?WITH O2

To add to @jonsie's advice - O2 are in the process of asking customers with older SIMs, ones incapable of 4G/5G, to pop into any O2 store and exchange their old SIM for a newer one, before the 3G switch off happens. More info here, @JanT
