My number is coming up different on my wife's phone!

Hello!

Both my wife and I have recently moved our phone contracts to o2, mine a few weeks back, my wife this week. Me from voxi, my wife from ee. We both ported numbers across.

Weirdly, when I text my wife she receives the message but it shows as having come from a totally different number to mine. If she tries to text me on my number I receive nothing. If she replies to the other number it works.

If she phones my proper number it works, if she phones the other number it says 'number not recognised' or similar.

What the heck is going on, and how do I solve it?

Any insights gratefully received.

@Nick-F

OK, so the message number is in the message app settings.

It will be under "RCS" or Advanced message services, something like that.

I suspect it will be wrong there.

The other option you have is to download Google Message app from Play store, which should fix the issue as the Samsung app is a bit flaky sometimes.

@Nick-F Sounds like your port didn't go through. You need to speak to customer service.
Call 202 from your mobile or 0344 809 0202, 0800 902 0217 or 0800 032 1402 from any phone or numbers here: Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support
When it comes to the reason you are calling, stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
Say 'Upgrade', 'Lost/Stolen', or 'Fraud' if the suggestion above doesn't get you through.
Best time to call is 8 am.
You can also reach O2 via social media:
Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB), Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW), or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)
Or you can call them on 0800 081 0255

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Thanks for your reply, you might be on the right track as my number port wasn't without issues.

That said, my phone number shows up properly everywhere else as far as I know, its just sms messaging my wife where there's an issue.

Check settings/phone/my number

Insert correct number, save and reboot the phone

Again, thanks for the reply.

My number is correct in phone settings, so I think that's a dead end sadly.

A bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut approach, but others have found that resetting their network settings can help.

Interesting......

Not sure if it's mine or my wife's phone that's the issue, but I'll give that a go.

I had to do that recently on the previous handset after an update killed 4g.

Right, I've reset network settings on both phones and all I've achieved is annoying the wife by causing her to reset her galaxy watch!

Number problem is unresolved...

I think we've assumed you have an iPhone. Do you, or Android?
