Hello there,

I am intended in transferring my number from Giffgaff to 02. I am in need of a ESIM and Giffgaff does not provide it yet. I wish to know if:

. Is it possible to transfer the number AND at the same time order a E-SIM? I am traveling overseas at the moment therefore, the change of my number should run smoothly ONLINE. This question is to confirm the procedure before I ask for the PAC number to my present provider.

Thanks for you help!

@Lara5

I would wait till you are back in the UK, as eSims dont activate outside of the UK, and for the number port to complete both sims have to be in the UK, for it to complete.

I would also recommend doing this in store, as they can give you the esim there and then, and deal with the port request.

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply.

I would get back in a three-month time, and I am in need of a solution to transfer it while I am overseas. The old SIM is with me, of course, out of the UK as well.

Do you know if this is a common standard for ESIMS or a 02 procedure? Otherwise I would transfer to another provider. Cheers and thanks!

Can't be done.

You could get an O2 SIM posted to your home address and get someone to activate it and forward it on, but that's it.  O2 Insist the first usage of any SIM must be in the UK.

You can't change numbers and activate SIM cards when abroad.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Thank you very much.

I have friends there, but I would still need the E-SIM and the activation, AND the present SIM which I would transfer the number, is out of the UK too, with me. I got a new phone and a regular SIM would not fit as there is already another physical one. Cheers
