I have an iPhone 12 Pro, I ported to O2 a couple of weeks ago.

I am finding the London Underground Wi-Fi never auto connects on my phone, I have to go into settings manually and connect to "WiFi Extra". I am finding the same at O2 hotspots, I have to manually connect.

Can somebody please help?

Here is some more from the TfL side:

https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/business-and-advertisers/creating-a-connected-london

Which mobile network works on the Underground?
Customers of mobile network operators Three, EE, Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 will access the high-speed 4G and 5G-ready mobile connectivity when using the Tube including when in tunnels. BAI won a 20-year concession from Transport for London (TfL) in June 2021 to provide mobile connectivity on the Underground.16 Jul 2022

Hey all. There's two discussions happening here so just wanted to address both.

4G/5G on the Underground

I don't have any further or internal information, but you can find all relevant info and details here. It's a 'neutral' network that's being installed by BAI Communications that'll allow customers on Virgin Media O2, Three, EE and Vodafone to connect to it.

This is separate to Wifi on the Underground so any correlation between having issues with Wifi and this new 4G service launching is just coincidental.

Issues getting connected

We're not aware of any current or widespread issues with Wifi on the Underground. However, that said, in order to use Wifi on the Underground you do first need to register and connect to an O2 Wifi hotspot above ground. You can find your nearest O2 Wifi hotspot here.

To get connected

If/once you're registered on the O2 Wifi network, connecting to the Underground Wifi should be pretty straight forward. As outlined here:

  • iOS devices
Go to Settings – Wi-Fi – and tap on ‘Wifi Extra’.
  • Android Devices
Go to Settings – Connections – Wi-Fi – and tap on ‘Wifi Extra’.
This may vary slightly depending on the device you’re using.

If you can't connect to Wifi Extra

If your device can’t connect to Wifi Extra, you can use Virgin Media Wifi instead.

  • In your device wifi settings, choose ‘Virgin Media Wifi’.
  • Select O2 from the pop up.
  • Enter your O2 mobile number.
  • You’ll see an O2 splash page – this means you’re connected.

After you’ve connected to Virgin Media Wifi once, your device will automatically connect in future.

If you can't connect to Virgin Media Wifi

When you try and connect to Virgin Media Wifi for the first time, you might get a message saying you must be registered for O2 Wifi above ground, before you can connect. If this happens, follow the steps below.

Whilst above ground, visit one of the thousands of O2 Wifi hotspots around the country. They can be found in O2 Stores, McDonalds, Costa coffee and many more places. Find your nearest hotspot

To connect to the hotspot:

  • In your device wifi settings, select ‘O2 Wifi’.
  • Open up your web browser, such as Safari or Chrome
  • Follow the onscreen steps to register for O2 Wifi.
  • Once you see the welcome page, you’re connected.

After you’ve connected to O2 Wifi, you’ll be able to use Virgin Media Wifi on the Underground in 24 hours.

Got the same issue as others in this thread.  My phone used to auto connect to Wifi Extra on the underground but for the past couple of months it has stopped for no apparent reason.  Manual connect works but I have noticed a an authentication splash screen has started to pop up with the message "Done".  Any help would be appreciated to get things back to "normal".
