Hi, when we returned from a meal out last night, her handset was locked in ODIN mode (SVB fail). I tried switching off, but it restarted itself and landed back at the same page. What can I do?

All you can try yourself next is a full factory reset, although that may not even work in this case.
Try it, but if it fails still, you'll need to send it in to Samsung to be reflashed.

SVB is a bootloader fail.
It means the phone has lost the information to startup properly.
First press and hold the volume down key and power button together and wait for a few minutes before your phone reboots itself.
Come back if this doesn't help as we made need a more invasive repair.

Thanks for getting back to me MI5.
I've tried that step a number of times, and it keeps going back to the fault download screen. I've also tried volume down and power button, followed by volume up and power button. The Android bot comes up with a progress bar. This gets to 25%, then the fault download screen re appears. The message across the top of the screen is "ODIN MODE (SVB Fail) SUPER: Build ID does not match with the reference"
Thanks for your help.
