In settings >About Phone.

You can also check for software updates there as that may help.

The full transcript of the link above:

About supported Android devices

We provide support for Android devices that meet the following requirements:

  • Your Android phone is running OS 4.1 and newer
  • Your Android phone is able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process

We offer limited support for Android tablets with an active SIM card and don't support Wi-Fi only devices.

You'll also need a data plan in order to receive messages when outside the range of a Wi-Fi network.

Note: WhatsApp will no longer support Android phones running OS 4.0.4 and older on November 1, 2021. Please switch to a supported device or save your chat history before then. Learn how in this article.

The Core is a 4.4 to 5.1 handset so it should work.

Although to be honest it is a really old handset so all the features might not work..

What does it say in Google Play when you try and download the app.

4.4 to 5.1 will still work alas support may be thin on the ground. Android 4 is pretty much not supported by many now.

Indubitably true. Samsung S21 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra
