I'll try again..but I get no help on here.

I have an OPPO A16s phone which has a 4G sim card.

Will my phone continue to work once 3G is turned off ??

I have received a text message saying my phone wont work..and when I check the O2 site itself for 'mobiles that will be effected'..it lists my phone..BUT..I have a 4G sim...

Can anyone help please.

@mucky1957 If you have a 4G sim and you're getting a 4G signal then your phone will still work. I'm not sure why you're receiving messages that it won't. If you're still concerned, speak to O2:

If you are PAYG then when 3G is turned off  you will still be able to use 4G for data but as it stands calls would go 2G.

That is not down to the phone but O2 denying 4G calling to PAYG customers.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

ah...did not know this.

Yes .. my phone is a PAYG..

Are you saying that ANY phone with a 4G or even 5G SIM card using PAYG will no longer work 'properly'.

I was thinking of upgrading to the new OPPO which definately has 4G.

I don't have a monthly contract as the phone is only to have with me for emergencies if I need to get hold of someone quickly or someone needs to get hold of me quickly ( like an emergency etc ). I literally don't spend a pound a month in usage

The phone will work for calls and text messages using the present 2G network rather than 3G, so if you are only using it for emergencies and that's all you need then I would not consider changing because even the latest phone will act the same way until O2 allow 4G calling

So I went to the O2 today at the Trafford Centre..as you do on a Bank Holiday... and had a long chat with one of the advisors there. Despite the fact that the O2 website itself tells me that my phone wont work with 4G ( its a CPH2271) apparently it will work 100% even tho I am on PAYG and there is nothing about VOLTE on my phone either. I do have a 4G SIM card in the phone. When I use mobile data then I can see the 4g symbol ( top right ). So fingers crosswd when 3G eventually is turned off in the NW. Thanks to all for the replies.

As noted elsewhere, @mucky1957 - your phone should drop to 2G for voice, and use 4G for data.

Sadly, 4G Calling, to your VoLTE point, is not made available by O2 to any of their PAYG customers, of which you said you are one.

It looks like the typical, badly-worded O2 text, and it omits to mention the new phone model will need a contract SIM as well for O2 VoLTE features ("4G Calling", or Voice over WiFi, aka "WiFi Calling").
