Hi all
Can a data transfer to a new phone done instore cause a google account password change?
Just happened to me when buying a new phone for my wife. Her phone and mine are linked to the same google account. I cannot think of any reason other than skullduggery why this would occur
Password now changed but hoping for some feedback
Cheers

@Priesy

No it can't.

The only way it can be changed is to change it.

You can check your activity and login history on Googles security pages and also report any unauthorised activity.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

@Priesy

Check your Google activity here.

https://myaccount.google.com/notifications

It will give you the time and location of the login and change of password.

I have checked the activity

The password was changed from the new phone while the data transfer was being performed by the O2 staff member while we were away from the shop

Could you please remove the solved marker from this thread.

Simply telling me to check my Google account activity does not address why an O2 employee would use a device I will be adding to my Google account to change my Google account password

The o2 member of staff can't just change your Google Password as Google emails you when it changes, and also asks for verification information.

Did you get any notifications from Google at all about the password change or any 2FA notifications.

- Xperia 1V - o2 and Spusu
- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

I have a corresponding email from the exact time it was changed
The password for your Google Account xxxxxxxxxx**Personal info** was changed. If you didn't change it, you should recover your account
No notification as I was in a place with no internet access at the time
Google activity shows the new phone as the device that changed the password
It was done 10 minutes after we left the O2 store and 30 minutes before we returned to collect the phone
