I recently changed my phone and the new one is using loads more data. So much so I have had to add two data bolt-ons in two days (whereas with my old phone, that was never necessary). When I left the O2 shop ICLOUD backup was running to sync the new phone asap. I have now disabled that- is that likely to solve the issue with data usage? Thank you

Yes, as your phone has been using mobile data to do all of its icloud sync to the new phone,
Just make sure that for future syncs it is set to only use WiFi and not mobile data..
