Hi

Hope someone can help

We have a family chat, using Google RCS chat features.

On 3 occasions now, we have received messages which appear to be from a member of the chat, but have been sent by a third party. The messages in question seem to be genuine and don't seem to be spam.

2 of the phones in the chat are on o2 and the other 2 are BT mobile. in all cases the messages have shown to be from users of o2 phones.

As far as a I can see online, RCS features are provided by the network rather than Google so appears to be an o2 issue?

@Rf87

If you message O2 on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG) , they should be able to help you with this.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I don't have either of them, is there an email address to contact them on? I spoke to the customer services but was too technical for them.

Thanks

@Rf87

No email support from o2 anymore, you will need to call them.

No one should be able to send a message as an RCS or Text message unless someone has given an app permission to send messages, so it might be worth people in your group chat to check if they have given an app that permission.

Thanks I'll have a look at the permissions.

On the messages received it looks to be a genuine issue/error - once of the messages was wishing a happy Easter and off to see nan and grandad (hardly something that sounds like spam)

Someone hasn't used speech recognition at all have they??

Also remember that Most RCS traffic is carrier independent and via Google RCS services (or as it was previously known - Jibe Mobile).

It might be worth reaching out to Google Support as well.,
