Cancel phone contact whilst having Apple Watch

I have a phone and Apple Watch plan with o2. If I pay off my phone device plan do still need some form of airtime plan to keep the Watch active? If so can I change to a sim only plan on the phone account?

You still need to have an airtime plan to keep the Apple Watch Plan active as the apple watch is linked to your o2 phone number.. So you can move the Phone over to a Sim Only plan once the device plan is paid off on the phone.

The only way not to is to pay both device plans off.
