I'm assuming an iPhone first.

Settings > Apps >Phone >Live voicemail >off

Android.

Open phone app. Tap the 3 dots >Settings >Voicemail >Visual voicemail >off

Thank you for your message, I've previously been told the same as you.  When I go into the phone app there are no options I can see for this?
