Can I simply buy a PAYG SIM for my second phone?

I have a phone with a PAYG SIM. I have a second phone for which I have bought a PAYG SIM and I want to run the two phones independently with different numbers. When I activate the second SIM are there any pitfalls? For example, I don't want O2 to assume that I'm switching numbers.

@Geoff99 You can have two Pay & Go phones with different sims. O2 won't assume anything.
