CHarging phone in car (Sony Xperia 1 ii, Android Auto)

I am using Android Auto to play Spotify lists, message and use Google Maps, a fantastic and unexpected bonus with my new phone.

However to use Android Auto the phone has to be connected to the car by cable (I think). This means the phone is obviously charging whilst connected and soon reaches peak charge. Is it sensible to carry on having  the phone connected by cable after peak charge is reached? Is it possible to connect to Android Auto without charging the phone?

Thank you

@Smudgelent

You phone will stop charging when full and just maintain the full charge state.

It won't damage anything.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
