I would like to start this ‘Try The Tech’ Review with a massive Thank you to  @Toby , @Anonymous and @Marjo our O2 Community Site Management, and 02 for permitting me once again to review a Mobile Phone via the ‘Try The Tech Programme’.

To join this programme and perhaps try a device out yourself then just keep an eye out on the forum board here :  http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Welcome-News/bd-p/3  ,and put your name forward via a Private Message to Toby when he announces a new Phase of reviewing, and put yourself forward for a device(s) that interest you - It's as easy as that.

Design.

The Amazon Fire Phone is pleasantly appealing with its Corning Gorilla Glass 3 front and rear screen with the Amazon Name/Logo on the reverse, with a soft plastic band that runs around the phone making it extremely easy to keep a grip of.

The screen size is 4.7” which is large enough to provide a pleasant user experience. There are cameras on each corner of the Amazon Fire Phone that enable Dynamic Perspective, a software feature that gives the phones display a 3D effect when you tilt the handset. The phone accepts a Nano Sized Sim Card.

Operating System & UI and General Use.

Amazons Fire OS 3.6.2 which is based on Android with 2GB of Ram.

The phones comes with a 32Gb or 64GB Internal Memory choice with no SD Memory Card option.

As an iPhone user I'm used to swiping left and right to view my home screens, but the Amazon Fire Phone swipes up and down which took me a little while to get accustomed to. If you swipe left on the Fire Phone you open up a quick list of shortcuts, like for apps, games, prime,  books, photos and videos etc. If you swipe right and you are presented with daily info such as calendar entries and weather.

The lock screen Wallpapers on the Fire Phone are very well presented and make good eye catching displays. They have movement in them like shooting stars and the occasional UFO hovering past. Eye candy yes, but nice never the less.

The Silk Browser on the phone worked well and is buttery smooth and I had no issues whatsoever. I had no issues either connecting to WiFi both at home, and in outlets with public WiFi.

The apps in the Amazon AppStore offer handy, quirky and dross offerings.

The MYo2 App worked fine on the Fire Phone., as did the o2 Priority App.

The Fire Fly App’s opening animations are visually nice and is easy to launch as its programmed into the camera key.Basically you set the item within the frame and wait for the fireflies to home in on your chosen object. You can scan e mail addresses, and phone numbers to quickly add to your address book , and it identifies songs , television programmes and films. In all a very useful feature.

Battery.

I'm a pretty heavy user but still achieved a days usage with charging the battery overnight. Generally it ran down to around 10% battery remaining at the end of the day { 5:30am to 22:00pm}

Camera.

The rear camera has a 13MP camera and LED Flash which was fine for my needs as an occasional snapper. The front facing camera is 2.1MP which I would think will be ok for selfies ! I shall add some photos taken with the phone in a short while.

The Good for me about this phone.

Good Solid handset.

Very comfortable to hold due to the soft plastic band.

Vibrant Display.

FireFly feature is very useful.

4G.

The Not so good for me about this phone.

No Micro SD Card Slot which will depend on the end user if this is a deal-breaker or not.

A little sluggish.

Lack of some App choices.

My Rating.

8/10.

Conclusion.

A very nice Mobile Phone and one I would personally own and use.

The Homescreen on the handset I was using.
