Have now got both phones on voice over wifi, the setting to enable it was found by swiping down the quick setting bar from the top and then swiping right to a second page, setting to switch on was there.

Thanks to all who replied

@Bonko

Have you asked customer service to register it on your accounts first?

https://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/wifi-and-4g-calling

Contact numbers for O2 Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support

Or advice from an O2 Guru regarding a way to get through:
If you call 202, when it comes to the reason you are calling stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
Say "Upgrade", "Lost/Stolen" or "Fraud" if you have to, to get put through to someone.

Just off a long chat with O2 seems none of my handsets are compatable even thogh compatabilty checker says they are, only options are to put up with the extremely poor network performance, buy new handsets or change networks. Thanks for all who replied, very gratefull to you all.

Both phones are on the compatible list.

If it was live chat I would ignore them and call as I advised above.
