can you get a screen grab and block out personal details and post it here so we can see and hopefully explain and clear up the issue or your only other option will be to ring 202 and get them to explain / correct it

No, sorry they don't.
Consumer tariffs are including VAT (it's only business tariffs that you have to ad VAT to).
If it is your first bill it will be a little bit higher due to the pro rata pricing for the first few days then next month it will be the tariff cost (unless you use anything outside of your allowances).
If you look in your "My O2" it will explain everything you have been charged.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

You definitely don't get VAT on VAT. As you say is I illegal but I think it's more a case of you understanding your bill.

As has been said vat is included in publicised tariff but is broken down on your bill using your £47 that is £39.16 + vat at 20% of £7.84.

As aluded to as well the first bill is higher . http://www.o2.co.uk/assets/O2HybridNav/Static-files/BillRedesign/BillRedesignHtmlDemo/PB_consumer_02...

Hey I have a similar problem with my bill. My pay monthy contract is 36 pounds (Including VAT), however I went over with a few 08 calls and VAT was added to the tatal bill. I see that the practice of adding VAT to the total (effectively a double tax) is specified in the contract terms but my question is what happened to the origingal VAT paid (i.e. 36 pounds including VAT) - where does that go? Am I missing something?!

Yes, you are missing it completely.
Your bill will be shown in your MyO2 ex vat then extra calls or services are added and then ONE vat amount at the end making a total bill.

Your monthly charge will show without the vat included and is always added at the end for auditing and tax purposes.
