I have just upgraded my pay monthly phone, wich i intend to give to my wife do you know if I could keep my existing phone and number and put a pay as you go sim in the new phone?

Yup, you will be on whatever tariff you upgraded to on your number,
If, after you get your new phone, everything is still working OK with the phone in regards to making calls, texts, data then you won't need to do any thing else. If you suddenly lose signal or cannot make calls, you will need to put the new sim that comes with the upgrade phone, into your old phone.

Yup, should be all ok as long as the payg sim is O2 if the phone is from o2

so my old phone will remain on pay monthly tarrif with same number and the new phone will work on payg they are o2 phones and sims?
