Your contract carries on as a 30 day contract until you cancel

To change to payandgo you have to callthem

Guide: Cancelling Your Contract

If You need to call O2 then choose any of the options, fraud etc
Everything is taking longer due to the lockdown. Call centres and social distancing means limited staff to handle all the queries. Patience needed I'm afraid.

Depending on where you got the contract from @anaya, it might be worth moving to a 30 day sim only deal.
I did that so that my monthly bill was reduced while I decided what to do long term (get a new phone or just longer sim only deal. Still not decided!!)
