my brother has just got iphone5 today along with a new sim card, leaving an iphone4 with micro sim but that is now de-activated after switching over to the new phone. we have a spare old standard sim thats still in use and looking to upgrade it so can use it with the iphone4, instead of going through the process of getting a new sim card, is it possible to use sim swap for the old standard sim to the de-activated sim already in the iphone4 and then upgrade using the text code?

No I'm sure you will need a new sim.

simply cut down your sim card to a micro one, did it with mine
Some phone shops will do it for you.

You were lucky, we have seen many cases of sims damaged on here, and a couple of cases of damaged sim slots, so it's not to be recommended.
