I bought a refubed 5s and was sent a sim that the advisor told me would be mu old number. It arrived and it didnt work. I went back to my dead old 5c and managed to get the sim out and have now put it in my new phone. It is working but I cant get hold of live chat to ensure my account and tariff stay the same. Help!

If you old sim card fits the new phone...all is fine. Your tariff will carry on as before.
Edited to add, I have just moved my old sim card to my new phone with no issues. Your account is linked to the card not the phone...
