I just switched 2 phones from PAYG to pay monthly and got an email today from o2wifi@o2.com requesting me to verify my email address. There was no other data to show it was genuine and the link (part pasted below) goes to a different outfit  - o2wifi.co.uk   note .co.uk vs .com

o2wifi.co.uk has the appearance of real o2 site for businesses to be able to allow their customers to use for example in-store wifi.

My questions are

1)  is the email I got an elaborate scam of some sort ?

2) my regular ISP is BT which allows individuals to access one another's wifi - is there an o2 equivalent and is this it?

o2wifi.co.uk is a genuine o2 domain, it is used for the hotspots provided by o2 to shops and venues.

The domain uses o2 dns servers and is owned by o2 Worldwide and is managed by o2's IP partner Stobbs.

It will be because you have moved to Pay Monthly.

Nothing sinister, just you have moved billing platforms.
