o2 Insurance scam

Anonymous
Not applicable

ive paid £8 per month for the last 30 months (£240.00) (£300.00 with the excess) to then be told that their is a possibility that my device may be replaced with a refurbished device, if this information what relayed to me at the time of taking out the contract i would have insured it somewhere else, this is a rip off, their are cheaper insurance companys that offer better solutuins to the claim. i guess my point is, when i took this contract out i agreed to paying through the teeth for a new device and then signed up to their insurance with the understanding that should i have to make a claim i would have to pay an excess, this is understandable. i can not understand how issuing a refurbished phone is permissable nor fair to the claimant. this will be the last contract i take out with o2 as i feel they have let me down after almost 16 years trading with the company

@Anonymous this will have been in the terms and conditions which you have agree'd to.

Sadly, this is an example of where you should have read the terms before agreeing to them ensuring they are fit for your needs, however as pointed out nearly all phone insurers are the same, mine is with my bank, and this is the same.

Unless you have a specific clause stating it will be a brand new replacement, chances are you will find all gadget policies will offer you a refurb replacement or the market value based on age and condition. Which is highly debatable as insurance companies will give you the lower end of the expected range unless you can prove otherwise. You only have to look at the car insurance market to realise you have an uphill battle to prove otherwise.

If you do find a policy that will replace with a new one, it will be a premium over the rest of the market and it will be down to what you think is value for money on losing it v the difference to buy a replacement. Given the number of outlets selling 2nd hand phones I'd save the money in paying insurance specifically for a mobile phone and not multi gadget.

I would imagine that the premium for a phone insurance policy that would replace new for old, if you could actually find one, would cost a lot more than £8 per month.
