You just simply have to pay off your device plan.
The settlement figure can be found in your MyO2 http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2
You can then continue paying just the airtime or give 30 days notice and cancel the airtime too (free) and leave o2 or switch to a sim only tariff.
How refresh works here https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-Pay-and-Go/How-does-O2-Refresh-work/ba-p/1014093
If you need to unlock your phone to use a sim from another network https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Other-Products-and-Services/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-S...
and if you want to take your number to another network you'll need your PAC https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-Pay-and-Go/How-to-get-your-PAC-2017-Update/ba-p/1052278
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:

I am afraid you've got that information wrong. If you want to leave your contract early, you calculate your monthly bill with the remaining contract months, minus the VAT.

This is if you took out both phone and airtime together.
