Your number stays with your sim and is automatically transferred when you upgrade.
If you wish to, you can swap to a new 5g sim when you get your new phone.
You can do this yourself by following this guide Guide: Sim Swap: a mini guide 2017 update or just continue to use your old sim in the new phone.
