iPhone 6 Plus price on O2 Refresh

Anonymous
Not applicable

My contract will end next month and I am looking at upgrade options.

I was looking at tariff that include iPhone 6 Plus 16GB

O2 has pay monthly tariff refresh for £53. In the breakdown they say that £30 is the phone payment and £23 is the airtime payment and there is no interest charged on the phone part.

However, that would mean that the cost of the phone is 24 months * £30 =  £729

Apple and everybody else is selling the same model of the phone for £629.

I thought that phones on contract are sold with discount.

Do I miss something?

It very much depends if the Refresh contract is a deal breaker for you. If it is then you are stuck with O2.

The phone can be bought cheaper in other outlets...

Additionally it is rare to find anyone offering discount on a flagship phone so recently released...

Yes Apple may sell the phone for cheaper but think about it. Getting it with O2 you have an actual contract

Yes it can be cheaper to buy the iphone from apple and go on a sim only tariff if you have the disposable income.
I buy mine sim free from Apple and am on Payg which works for me. I'm not locked into any contract and only have the outlay of the iPhone and no costs if I either don't choose to top up or leave the network.

O2 apply their own price to the iPhone.

Apple stores and CPW offer O2 upgrades but without the refresh tariff as indicated. If that's not a deal breaker then perhaps get one in a 24 month contract.

Sorry @Anonymous

As I started my post with "yes" that means I'm agreeing and supporting @Cleoriff 's post -

I didn't see where Cleoriff also suggested perhaps going on a Sim Only Tariff ?

Well, I know iPhone 6 is still hot. I did not expect a discounted price. £629 is a standard retail price and everybody is selling it for £629. All major retailers, Apple, many operators etc.

So what is the point of getting it from O2 for £729 locked and with 2 years contract (especially when the mandatory airtime part - £24 per month with 2 GB data is hardly a great deal either).

I'll have to chat with O2 about my options next month, but I don't think I'll renew with O2 this time unless they come up with something very different.

That makes me thing that these old tariffs where everything was just a one big price were just hiding the fact how expensive these tarrifs really are. On the other hand thumbs up for O2 that they are clear about this.

30x24 is actually 720 but let's not slit hairs.
The point is you are been told the exact price you are been charged for the phone and the overall cost is divided into 24 equal payments, interest free.
Not every shop sells everything at the same price so it's the choice of the consumer where you choose to buy from.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Perhaps a new deal will exist or perhaps another phone may catch your eye when your ready. 😄

Another option is to buy an unwanted uograde from high street shops such as CEX as one example.
