my ex partner set up a phone contract for me, i pay the bills and set up the passwords exept for the main one they want when i call them. its registered at my address. 02 wont let me change the name on the account so i cant pay the bill and its been going up every month. now they want to disconnect my phone and charge the whole bill (which i cant afford to pay) all at once. also ill be without a phone. is there a way i can change the name without the passwords or without having to ask my ex?

without the password i cant get past the security check over the phone so i never get the chance to explain my situation to 02.

Unfortunately no, you cannot change the name on the account even if you did know the password.
There is no reason why you can't pay the bill though - You can do it by logging into your My O2 http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2

Sorry the original person who took out the contract is the only one who can do this.

If you can't get into MyO2 you will need their help with the security details.

Unfortunately your only options are to talk to your ex or pay it all off, cancel and start over in your own name.

Only passing security would allow you to do that, there is no other way.
