my understanding is i log out of everything and factory data reset the phone
go into store they check the phone to make sure its in not broken etc but then what happens i've seen some comments say i have to send it away or do they retain the phone and they do it ?

You reset it completely and remove the sim card.
You may need to pre order as the stores may not have huge stocks of the S24 so call ahead to check.
You can use your sim in any phone in the interim.

The store take the phone, clear your device plan and hand over your new phone.

ahh its the s24 ultra that comes out on the 25th i believe
so can i stlll take it in tomorrow and they send me the new phone on or after the 25th or is it better to go on the 25th ? i can swap the sim out and put it in another other for a day or so so being without a phone for 24/48 hrs is not a problem for me.

Sorry for another question but do you delete everything on the phone ie factory reset or do they need to access the phone and they delete everything afterwards ?

They have changed the process on preorders. You you keep your phone and they send you a returns bag with your new phone. You then return it yourself:)

I will do. I only live a few miles up the road from where they actually get sent to 😅
