end of my contract

My Contract finishes 0n 21st October 2018, I do not want to continue with O2. Is there a way I can pay off my contract (£40) and organise a new phone with a new provider as soon as possible?

Yes, you can pay off at anytime and cancel.

@ColinTemple Just make sure the coverage you'll get with the network you choose is as good or better than what you're getting with O2 in the places you frequent most, and at home.
