data stopped at 4gb

Hi

Not sure what tarriff I'm on (£15+ pm), but they've just capped my 'unlimited' mobile data at 4gb with 6 hrs notice - and this is after being told by the sales person that 'unlimited means unlimited'.  My typical usage is less than 200mb per month - and likely to return there.  I've been with O2 for more than a decade, but despite excellent customer service I don' think I'll be with them much longer - I simply don't like stuff that doesn't do what is says on the tin.  And don't anyone wave a FUP at me - there wasn't one.

Has anyone got anywhere with 'breach of contract' or similar?

Yours, miffed

David

Unlimited should be unlimited these companies really need to be told this it really isn't fair and in my book it's false advertising

Reading between the lines here, it may not have been the used amount that triggered, more the speed in which that amount was reached.

For example, someone who took 20 days to get to 4GB would be putting less of a strain on the network in that area than someone who racked it up in 48hours.

Again it all goes back to whether o2 deemed that your usage was causing detriment to other users. I'd say using 4GB in 48hours could be causing detriment where 4GB in 20 days may not.

There will be a system where high / rapid usage is flagged to someone who would make the decision about restricting use. They will have guidelines to help them judge what is excessive.

That sounds logical, Pablo.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

If they have guidelines they should be made to show them to their customers

Please note (again) - O2 never said anything about my usage affecting others.  Three layers of management just kept banging on about 4gb like it was their limit.  If O2 had said 'please curb your usage as it's having an effect on other customers' I'd have done that - but they didn't - they said it 'may start to worsen the exeprience of other users' and then cut me off.  Can anyone tell me the %load on the O2 system in YO24 at 17:53 on 17/02/13?  Can anyone suggest how I might find out?  I bet it wasn't even 50%!

I can't give you any suggestions about how to find out the %load in a certain postcode at a certain time. That kind of info is generally never available to the public.
