credit check, address problem

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am going to get an O2 contract through the Carphone Warehouse. But they said I have not passed the credit check from O2 because my address is missing in the O2 system. Called the CW, they said they cannot do anything because it is the O2 system. Called O2, they said I should ask the CW to fix it.

Sounds like kicking the ball. I used to with Vodafone and 3, no any problem. Got another number with Orange for my wife, no problem. I've check the Royalmail postcode finder, no problem. My apartment number is 217 and the CW told me it shows from 216, 218,219 but there's no 217. It is obviously that my address is missing in O2 system, no matter who do the credit check for them.

What should I do now?

Thank you all you guys for reply.

I have been to the O2 store today. The store manager finally got my address from somewhere in their system. However, they asked me to sign a contract as a pay back for it. And I said no because it's 15 pounds a month more than I can get from the CPW. So, I get back home and sign a 30-days sim only on their website. I guess that may help to update my address in their system.

I'll get update if it works.

Thanks again for all your helps.

They asked you to sign a contract because they corrected something that was incorrect in their system which shouldn't have been incorrect and was obviously their fault? That's appalling! You did the right thing.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Guys, I'm gonna update again.....

Good news and bad news.....

Bad news first. Still not working even I can use O2 sim-only. This morning I received the sim card of sim-only contract which I signed from O2 website. This afternoon, I went to CPW tried to sign in the store. Everything was fine until the staff did the credit check by using my bank card. Failed again because of no address. Then I rang O2 and let the staff explained to O2 what the situation was. At the end, I was told that the reason I can pass the credit check and get the sim-only is on the website the address is input by manual. In the store, they do the credit check by eletronic device, the card machine for example. That's why I can pass the credit check online but failed in somewhere else. Also, the guy told me if I want to put my address back to everyone's system, I need to contact the Royal Mail and ask them to update my address. All process may take 6-8 weeks.

Sounds weired, right? So, I give up for another try.

Good news is.......

The latest sale on O2 website came up today. Note3, 600mins, 750MB, 3G tariff, 29.99 upfront, 32/month; 4G tariff, 37/month.

In CPW, it will be 5 pound less per month than O2's offer...

Guys, what do you think?:smileywink:

There are three main credit agencies, Experian, Equifax and Call Credit.  They don't share information so, if you have any problems, you will need to check all three.  You may find that some information appears on one but not the others as it depends on who the creditors report to.

While they don't share data they all receive the same data from the credit lenders such as O2.

The same info should be available from any of them.

Unfortunately not.  I've checked all three credit files in the past and the same information definitely wasn't showing.  I queried this with my bank at the time, Nationwide, and was told that not all companies report to all credit agencies.  Some do, some don't.

To the OP, I hope you can get sorted out and get the deal that you want.

I did suggest you check with Royal Mail earlier in this thread. It is possible they don't have your exact address details.
It's worth checking at least.....

I did check from the Royal Mail Postcode Finder page. This is the page I went to: http://www.royalmail.com/postcode-finder . It shows my address on it with no problem, no matter I put the address word by word or the postcode. That's why I confused.

By the way, do anyone know if I can get some cashback or free line rental from the O2 store?

I'd print it off as proof and send it to O2.....
