my contract has been cancelled, i did not know this as my dad had cancelled it. however i want to continue the contract but to transfer the contract to my direct debit? my contract ended two days ago, will i be able to continue this contract with a cheaper tariff? but to keep the same phone

The problem is, even though you used the number, technically it was not your number. It belonged to the contract your dad was paying. As the contract was canceled recently, they may not have allocated the number so soon. That's the only thing you can hope for, but don't get your hopes too high.

It's not confusing at all. When he canceled the contract he also gave up the number. O2 have either reallocated it already, or they haven't. If they haven't and you request it, they may or may not give it to you.
